A Golden Milestone: Celebrating 50 Years of Brotherhood and Achievement at Eta Psi

As the Eta Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., approaches its momentous 50th anniversary, we are reminded of the profound journey that has defined our chapter from its inception to the present day. Our chapter, established with deep-rooted connections and a vision for the future, has blossomed into a beacon of brotherhood, service, and achievement within the community and beyond.

The genesis of the Eta Psi Chapter is a story of visionary collaboration and community engagement. It began with a conversation between two influential women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., which catalyzed the formation of a bond that would eventually give rise to our esteemed chapter. This dialogue between Mrs. Beulah Louise Whitfield Mebane and Mrs. Aldridge "Zoe" Davidson led to an inaugural meeting at the Mebane residence, laying the groundwork for what would become a thriving chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi.

Under the guidance and mentorship of Brother Francis H. Mebane, Jr., an interest group known as Men Interested in Kappa (MIK) was formed. This group would pave the way for the establishment of a Scroller Club, nurturing the young men who would become the chapter's charter members. Their dedication and commitment were instrumental in the chapter's formation, reflecting the core values of leadership and brotherhood that define our fraternity.

Chartered on February 23, 1975, at East Carolina University, the Eta Psi Chapter emerged under the auspices of esteemed fraternity leaders, including Grand Polemarch Dr. Elbert E. Allen and Middle Eastern Province Polemarch David L. Thompkins. The chapter's seven charter members—Brothers Thomas V. Lee, Grover Cooper, Richard Daniel, Gene Thomas, Talmage Fauntleroy, Stanley D. Watkins, and James A. Clark—embodied the principles of Kappa Alpha Psi, setting a standard of excellence that continues to this day.

Since its inception, Eta Psi has been a crucible of achievement, with members excelling in diverse fields and contributing significantly to their communities and professions. Our Brothers have upheld the chapter's legacy of excellence, demonstrating leadership, scholarship, and service across various spheres of human endeavor.

As we look forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary on February 21 - 23, 2025, we reflect not only on our chapter's storied past but also on the bright future that lies ahead. This milestone is an opportunity for Eta Psi Brothers past and present to come together, celebrate our achievements, and recommit to the values that have guided us for half a century.

Let us honor the vision of our founders and the contributions of all Brothers who have passed through Eta Psi's ranks. Together, we will commemorate this golden anniversary, drawing inspiration from our rich history and looking forward with anticipation to the new chapters of achievement and brotherhood yet to be written.

In the spirit of our enduring legacy, let us mark February 21 - 23, 2025, as a day of reflection, celebration, and aspiration, reaffirming our commitment to the principles of Kappa Alpha Psi and the bonds of brotherhood that unite us. Here's to the Eta Psi Chapter—past, present, and future—and the enduring legacy we continue to build together.
