Fifty Years of Brotherhood: The Legacy and Future of Eta Psi
Brothers,
There are moments in a man’s life when the world seems to pause, allowing him to stand still and bear witness to something greater than himself. This past weekend was one such moment. To gather with you all in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of our chapter—the Eta Psi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.—was more than a milestone. It was a reminder of the bonds that bind us, the legacy we are building, and the spirit of Brotherhood that sustains us.
Eta Psi is known by the moniker The Hospitality Chapter—a name that carries a profound weight in a world so often marked by division. While others may claim titles like The Bloody Chapter, The Flagship, or The Lethal Chapter, our identity is grounded in a different calling: Brotherhood. Hospitality. The choice is deliberate, and the impact is undeniable. In that name lies our mission—to be a sanctuary for one another, a space where iron sharpens iron, where love and loyalty are more than words but the very foundation upon which we stand.
This past weekend, I experienced that Brotherhood in its purest form. Some of you know that I traveled directly from the side of my family, where we were navigating the weight of tragedy. My heart was heavy, and my initial instinct was to remain with them, tending to their needs. Yet, my wife—wise as she is—knew what my spirit required. She urged me to honor my commitment, to come and stand among my Brothers, knowing that in your presence, I would find the strength I had been pouring into others. And she was right.
What you may not realize is that your laughter, your stories, your very presence became a balm for a weary heart. In your company, I found renewal. To the younger Brothers, perhaps you did not fully understand why I repeatedly told you how proud I am of the work you’re doing—of the way you strive to achieve in every field of human endeavor. But know this: each of you is part of something larger than yourselves. You are the builders of this house, the keepers of this legacy.
And to the seasoned Brothers—those dyed in the crimson wool of Eta Psi—your wisdom is the foundation upon which we stand. To sit beside you, to hear the echoes of your stories, is to touch the very roots of our chapter. I have never been one to defer too much to the size or age of other chapters. For while they may have long histories, we are crafting something just as enduring here.
Brothers, we are not merely building a chapter—we are building an institution and The Empire that will stand long after we are gone. A place where young men are not only shaped but forged into Kappa Men, bound by the same oath, the same purpose, the same unbreakable bond.
